Patter has relevant synergies with multihit cards like Stardust, but it also just has large enough numbers that it's worth taking. Later in the run it's unlikely to be an incredible card unless the Vigor becomes very valuable, but early on every deck is happy to have it because it does so much for 1 Energy.
