In theory Cleanse can be used to remove chaff from your deck over time in order to end up with a powerful combo of cards toward the end of the fight, but in practice many fights are too threatening for this to be appealing to most decks.
Use this to thin curses, statuses or basic cards from the draw pile and improve your future draws.
