Tools of the Trade is quite slow. It costs one card to draw it to begin with, so it doesn't actually end up having drawn you net-positive cards until two turns after it's put in play.
That said, being able to choose from one more card every turn is quite powerful, and it also triggers Sly cards or discards nasty Statuses and Curses for you. Quite worth taking, but it's also worth considering how you're going to stay alive long enough for it to have a chance to pay off for you.
