

Negative Pulse can get very strong in the right sort of run; it does very well with other cards which reward you for applying Debuffs or specifically Doom. However, early on in the game it can be quite awkward, as it doesn't block for enough to be a strong Block card and its damage lines up poorly against quite a few enemy mechanics in the first two Acts of the game.

Block + area damage is a combo that solves a lot of early- and mid-game combats. Works best when combined with another source of area damage.
