Expertise is at its best when combined with Discard cards. Discard some stuff from your hand, hopefully get something out of that, then refill. Early on in the run you typically don't have enough energy or discard to justify it, but it occasionally comes together later on. Also worth noting: Expertise is one of the best ways to support Grand Finale, if you ever end up in a run where you're trying to make that work.
