Because Bugslayer doesn't allow you to skip, it actually changes the balance of the game around it a little bit. Even in a deck which doesn't expect to win with attacks, an event might land you with one you'd be best to try to make good use of. I tend to take Exterminate, as there are plenty of easy ways to make a x4 attack hitting all enemies very strong. In fact, even without any help, it's already doing alright in some fights. Add some Vigor, Strength, or on-hit effects like Monarch's Gaze or Envenom, and Exterminate starts to shine, even if you weren't expecting to build an attack-based strategy before getting this event. Squash can also do alright. Keep in mind that applying Vulnerable will remove an Artifact charge from enemies with Artifact, so it can occasionally be useful even if you don't care much for attacks or Vulnerable in a run.

As you're fending off a swarm of aggressive insects you suddenly notice a Mighty Rugged Warrior-Man fighting beside you this whole time! The insects, sensing defeat, scatter. You turn to your fellow fighter. “Would you like any tips on exterminating these pests?” How polite. You nod and accept his offer.
Learn Extermination Technique
Add Exterminate to your Deck.

“I see... you wish to learn the Extermination Technique. Very good...” He pauses briefly, thinking how best to endow you with this maneuver... THIS IS THE TECHNIQUE! BEHOLD!! He boasts while holding up a can of Insecticide.
Learn Squash Technique
Add Squash to your Deck.

“I see... you wish to learn the Squash Technique. Very good...” He pauses briefly, thinking how best to endow you with this maneuver... THIS IS THE TECHNIQUE! BEHOLD!! He boasts while stepping on a giant bug.

Silently the figure nods at you, and then walks away.
