Spire 1 had Entrench at Uncommon, which doubled your Block, and which provided an easy way for Barricade to win you the entire game as part of a two-card combo. The removal of Entrench makes the card a lot less exciting. It can definitely be a worthwhile pickup in a deck which can burst out a ton of Block at once, but can't consistently create Block every turn; think about cards like Second Wind + Feel No Pain, where you might run out of Skills to exhaust later on in the fight, or something like Gambit which makes far more Block than needed for one turn, but then does nothing until it's drawn again.
