There are some fights that Refract does INCREDIBLY well in, but they don't tend to be the toughest fights in the game, and spending 3 Energy on a card which only deals damage will almost certainly result in your taking a substantial hit in return. I don't hate taking one, but my better decks don't.
Tons of damage output in a single card. You get big damage to one target and area damage to everyone else. The cost is prohibitive but it's worth picking up in Act I anyway. Much better once you have other energy-generating cards.
